Exkursion nach Bad Godesberg ins Englische Theater
On February 27th2024, two 12th grade advanced English courses hopped on a train to Bonn Bad-Godesberg to collectively watch a theatre performance of Shakespeare’s tragedy „Romeo and Juliet“. As both courses were currently reading the play in their lessons, watching the performance helped them to further understand the essence and the atmosphere of the story.
The performance itself was performed by a touring theatre group. With only a limited number of props on stage, they managed to portray the tragedy in a creative and fascinating way. The way they spoke matched Shakespeare’s original work, as they spoke in Early Modern English. Hearing this kind of language fascinated the students even more, considering it is something they do not hear in their daily lives. The students’ attention was captured and most importantly: they had a lot of fun.
When the play was over, the students had an hour of free time in Bad-Godesberg before returning home.
